CELLIST/Performer

I’m passionate about bringing together classical music and contemporary creation. I like to imagine the cello as a space of exploration, where classical repertoire, chamber music, improvisation, and composition meet and enrich one another.

Contemporary music has been part of my journey from the very beginning. I love performing existing masterpieces as much as taking an active part in creating new works, collaborating closely with composers and engaging in the creative process.

Improvisation is a vital part of my practice — a space of freedom where sound and gesture become one. As an improviser and composer, I’m drawn to new sonic territories and interdisciplinary forms that expand the boundaries of performance.

I seek to embody the spirit of a 21st-century musician: curious, open, and committed to weaving meaningful connections between diverse artistic worlds.

Un solo circular

Hilario Flores-Coni

For live cello/performer, pre-recorded celli and multi-channel electroacoustic tape.

“Are we alone on stage when performing solo?” In an attempt to illustrate an answer to this question, the cellist is given the challenge to interact with and materialise some (only some) of the infinite, parallel possibilities of her and her instrument that are accompanying them on stage throuoghout this piece.

“Un solo circular” was written between november 2023 and January 2024 for Hortense Airault, who actively collaborated with ideas for cello effects, specific notation, overall concept and mise en scene. The piece was premiered by her at the HEM in Geneva, Switzerland, in February 2024. - Hilario Flores-Coni - www.deuterus.com

study for string instrument#3

Simon Steen-Andersen

For cello and video

Study for String Instrument #1-3’ (2007-2011) is a mini-trilogy exploring, among other things, choreographic aspects of string playing. All three pieces are notated as movement and #1 and #2 can be played on any string instrument or in any combination of string instruments. The overall development throughout the series is going from "movement of the sound" to "sound of the movement", increasing the role of the movements themselves. #1 could be said to be a sort of choreographic game or better yet - like a dance, accompagnying itself ...

Corps Accord

Hortense Airault

For solo cello

Corps Accord is a three-part piece for solo cello that explores and unfolds around the identity of the musician on stage: what is their relationship to the performance space, to their instrument, to others (the audience), and, above all, to themselves? What if the space in which they present themselves — in performance, in representation — revealed them as they truly are, in their uniqueness and artistic essence? How can they sincerely, humorously, and with deliberate missteps, subvert the established stage rituals and conventions to transform them into a sensitive, expressive narrative?
