PEtite suite pour jouets

For three musicians and three toys

Commissioned by Ensemble Contrechamps, premiered in November 2023 by members of the ensemble.

Petite suite pour Jouets is a humorous and theatrical piece composed for La journée des familles commissioned by Ensemble Contrechamps.
The work plays on situational comedy: the musicians are never able to produce a single sound from their instruments. Each attempt is interrupted by noises made by toys, creating a burlesque tension between musical intention and sonic unpredictability.

Each musician is equipped with a toy placed under their foot, emitting distinctive sounds when pressed or released. This staging playfully subverts the traditional codes and rituals of classical concerts, confronting the performers’ seriousness with the absurdity of everyday objects.

Petite suite pour Jouets delights in demystifying the act of musical performance, offering both children and adults a lighthearted and playful moment of shared enjoyment.

The piece was also performed at the Archipel Festival 2025 in Geneva (Switzerland), with Duo Imminent (Hortense Airault and Ana Parejo) and Florencia Novoa.
